Children sponsorship programme - FAQs

1. How much does it cost to sponsor a child?

The program costs £300 per year, or £25 per month. It is also possible to pay in euros, and in that case the program costs €360 per year or €30 per month.

2. How is this money used?

The money is used to cover the costs of keeping the child for a year in the "Our Lady Queen of Peace" school boarding school, run by the Todonyang mission up to grade 9. The child lives in the boarding school all year round, apart from school holidays, and receives food, lodging, medical care and education. For the last three years, the child will go to another senior secondary school in a nearby town.

3. How long does the sponsorship support last?

Whilst there is no obligation to maintain support for a minimum duration, we ask the donor to support the child until he or she achieves the secondary school diploma.

4. How much of the money I pay is actually allocated to support the child?

100% of the money paid goes to cover the costs of keeping the child in school. These funds are totally dedicated to the child and are not used for other purposes.

5. How will I be able to check the child's progress?

After the end of each academic year, which in Kenya is at the end of October, the donor will receive by email the child's end-of-year school report, an updated photo of the child and a letter from them in English. It is expected that the sponsor will receive this information by February the year after.

6. Can I send a letter to the child?

Yes, you can write to your child twice a year by sending an email in English to New Ways. To limit the work of the missionaries, we recommend that you write to your child only once a year, in response to the letter you will receive at the end of the school year.

7. What happens if the child stops going to school?

You will be contacted to ask if you want to sponsor another child, or if you would prefer to stop contributing.

8. What should I do if I decide to stop sponsoring the child?

Please send an email to your New Ways contact and notify your intention to stop your sponsorship. For us to look for another donor, we kindly request to give us at least three months' notice before stopping your contribution.

9. What happens when a child achieves their secondary school diploma?

Your sponsorship will be concluded, and you will have given the child an opportunity for their future. Your child will be forever grateful, and you have done a great thing! You will be contacted and will have the opportunity to consider available options, including sponsoring undergraduate studies, if the student wants to continue their studies, or sponsoring another child.

Thank you!
