Thorne delivers nature education programs to over 15,000 kids each year, most of whom are low income.  We need your help to get these kids outside and connecting to the wild landscapes of Colorado!   In particular, Summer Camp serves about 2,000 youth at various locations around Boulder and Lafayette.  

Teaching Assistant Volunteers (TAs) and Student Teaching Assistant Volunteers (STAs) work alongside experienced Instructors and provide program support for a specific camp each week. S/TA positions are unpaid, volunteer positions, and are a great opportunity to gain leadership experience and explore the field of environmental education while building community and connecting to nature yourself. Complete this application if you are interested in any of the following Summer Season positions:

• Student Teaching Assistants - between 13-15 years old and falls under Thorne's childcare license. In addition to completing this Volunteer Application, STA's must also fill out camper paperwork and register to be an STA in CampMinder. (8:20am-2:40pm) 

• Teaching Assistants -  at least 16 years of age.  Some TA's also help in Thorne's office, and can create a summer internship around this program. (8:20am-2:40pm)

• Extended Care Teaching Volunteer-  at least 16 years of age.  Support the campers and instructors after camp end at Ryan Elem or Sombrero Marsh. (2:20-5:40pm)

• Summer Education and Administrative Internship - best suited for applicants who are 18 years and older, though exceptions may occur for the right candidates. (Times to be negotiated)

If you want to assist as a S/TA with Summer Camp, you are likely to get at least one of the volunteer weeks you requested, especially if you are able to volunteer at more than one site.  Volunteer schedules will be confirmed on a rolling basis beginning in April so we can best pair volunteers to the needs at camp.  If your availability changes, you can log back into your application and update your dates at any time.
