RSVP for a Online Rally for a #GasBan for NYC. Green New Deal Now! Tuesday, May 18th @ 7pm
RSVP to join experts, activists, and Councilmember Ampry-Samuel and other Councilmembers to push for introduction and passage of legislation to ban gas hookups in new buildings and gut renovations in New York City.
A gas ban in NYC is a critical next step in creating a #GreenNewDeal4NY: good jobs and cutting air pollution from NYC's buildings! Cities like San Jose, Seattle, Oakland and San Francisco have enacted gas bans on new construction and gut renovations starting in 2022. Now, it's time for NYC to lead by passing a ban that applies immediately to new permitting, going forward.
Our elected officials will need to overcome the real estate and gas industry lobby, which will try to derail this vital effort. This rally will press the NYC Council, which is led by Council Speaker Johnson, to pass a gas ban NOW. (Mayor de Blasio supports passing a gas ban, but the Council must pass legislation) A recent study shows that air pollution from fossil fuels from buildings kills almost 2,000 New Yorkers each year, the highest total of any state. And the climate crisis is accelerating!
Please RSVP now: We will send you the zoom link for the event and other information after you RSVP. Together, let's advance a fairer and more sustainable future for New York!
