The Black upStart competitively selects a cohort of up to 10 African-American entrepreneurs interested in starting an enterprise. To date, we have trained over 100 Black entrepreneurs in the District of Columbia, Brooklyn, Baltimore and Raleigh.
Black entrepreneurs participating in this program have graduated and been featured in Black Enterprise, Good Morning Washington, Blavity and Washington Post and have received investments from the Carolina Small Business Development Fund, National Urban League, Piranha Tank , and the National Society Black Engineers to name a few. Products developed as part of the incubator have been shelved at CVS and showcased and festivals around the nation to include Essence and the Black Luv Festival.
The program leads participants through the process of:
(1) Idea Generation & Validation;
(2) Prototyping;
(3) Business Canvas Development; and
(3) Product Launch & Pitching.
