Program Details:
The increasing impact of the US blockade of Cuba is causing the unnecessary deaths of thousands of Cuban babies. The US blockade has gravely increased Cuba’s infant mortality rate. Ten years ago, the rate (deaths per 1,000 liveborn infants) was 4.3, lower than the US, and far lower than the US rate for Black infants. Trump and Rubio’s policies have doubled Cuba’s rate of infant mortality. A fuel siege with resulting blackouts and a concentrated attack on all Cuba's sources of income have crippled the Cuban public health system through limiting international trade and thereby access to medical supplies and equipment.
Cuban healthcare workers know how to save the lives of newborns and their mothers. But the blockade denies them access to nutritional supplements that can help ensure mothers carry healthy babies to term with a normal birthweight. It also blocks the purchase of life-saving ventilators, incubators, and access to adequate nutrition. The lives of thousands of mothers and their babies are at significant risk due to the US genocidal blockade.
Come and hear live testimony from those of us that have been to Cuba. Learn what we all can do to support the Cuban people.
