This application form is for the participation and full funding for LETRS professional learning provided for via Section 35a(10) of P.A. 103 of 2023 and administered by the Michigan Department of Education (MDE). In partnership with Lexia® Learning, MDE is providing the opportunity for educators to be trained in Language Essentials for Teachers of Reading and Spelling (LETRS) (grades K–3) or LETRS for Early Childhood Educators (LETRS EC) (Pre-K). Developed by Dr. Louisa Moats and leaders in the field of literacy, LETRS teaches the skills needed to master the foundational and fundamentals of reading and writing instruction—phonological awareness, phonics, fluency, vocabulary, comprehension, and written language. Additionally, LETRS for Administrators (literacy leaders, coaches, principals, and district administrators) was developed by Melody Ilk , Anne Whitney & Louisa C. Moats and leaders in the literacy field, this course defines the systems and infrastructures required to successfully implement a literacy initiative aligned to scientifically based research.

Who is Eligible?
Any Michigan pre-K to 6
educator as well as pre-K-12 certified special
education personnel with endorsements in learning disabilities, emotional
impairments, or speech and language impairments employed by a public school district or public charter school.
All decisions regarding the approval/awarding of registration applications will be made by the MDE, and MDE will notify all applicants whether their application has been accepted or declined. For questions or further information about the decision and award criteria and process, please contact
