MDE LETRS Professional Learning Opportunities!
This application form is for the participation and full funding for LETRS professional learning provided for via Section 35a(10) of P.A. 103 of 2023 and administered by the Michigan Department of Education (MDE). In partnership with Lexia® Learning, MDE is providing the opportunity for educators to be trained in Language Essentials for Teachers of Reading and Spelling (LETRS) (grades K–3) or LETRS for Early Childhood Educators (LETRS EC) (Pre-K). Developed by Dr. Louisa Moats and leaders in the field of literacy, LETRS teaches the skills needed to master the foundational and fundamentals of reading and writing instruction—phonological awareness, phonics, fluency, vocabulary, comprehension, and written language. Additionally, LETRS for Administrators (literacy leaders, coaches, principals, and district administrators) was developed by Melody Ilk , Anne Whitney & Louisa C. Moats and leaders in the literacy field, this course defines the systems and infrastructures required to successfully implement a literacy initiative aligned to scientifically based research. 

The information and responses you provide in this registration form will be used to verify eligibility and administer LETRS professional learning. Any questions about the information requested or received through this form or its use should be directed to MDE-LETRS@michigan.gov

Note: You may only register yourself and you can only register once. This form is not intended to be completed by anyone other than the individual applying to participate in the MDE LETRS professional learning.

Who is Eligible?
Any Michigan pre-K to 6 educator as well as pre-K-12 certified special education personnel with endorsements in learning disabilities, emotional impairments, or speech and language impairments employed by a public school district or public charter school.

All decisions regarding the approval/awarding of registration applications will be made by the MDE, and MDE will notify all applicants whether their application has been accepted or declined. To be eligible to participate, MDE requires each applicant to affirm the following commitments:

Are you currently actively participating in a LETRS training provided by MDE (LETRS training grant cohorts 1-7)?  *
Educators are welcome to take additional LETRS training after completing current training.  You can only be enrolled in one LETRS training at a time.  If you have already successfully completed a LETRS training please answer "no" to the question below.  
I commit to implementing in my classroom the strategies and assessments taught in the course of study. *

I commit to completing all units of LETRS K-5, LETRS for Early Childhood Educators or LETRS for Administrators. *

I will complete all independent activities including reading, watching video sessions, taking quizzes, creating the Bridge to Practice case studies, and taking the learning into practice.   *

I will attend all training sessions (virtual) which include 16 live training sessions for LETRS K-5; four live training sessions for LETRS for Early Childhood Educators; and 4 days for LETRS for Admin. *

I affirm that I am fully committed to completing the LETRS course of study in its entirety which is more than 120 hours of training throughout the course of the entire program of LETRS K-5; upward of 38 hours of training for LETRS for Early Childhood Educators; and 59 hours for LETRS for Admin. *

I understand and agree that my application to and participation in the MDE LETRS professional learning course of study, and my access to the LETRS subscription, and/or content is provided to me through a services agreement between MDE and Lexia Learning. *

I understand that any subscription access, materials and training sessions made available to me under this MDE LETRS professional learning course of study are licensed to MDE, and that my departure from my current position that results in no longer qualifying for this opportunity means I will no longer be eligible for completion of this program and I will lose all access to the course of study.   *
