Help Please! A package for new R users
Do you have an error message you'd like explained, a word you'd like defined, encouragement to send to a new R user or a tip for troubleshooting either code generally or R specifically? We'd love to hear from you. All users are encouraged to contribute - if you're new to this, we'd especially love to hear about what's confusing! You can find out more about helpPlease here:
We're looking for some help in the following areas:
- R error messages that could be explained in plain language.
An example: Error in encourager[4, 5] : object of type 'closure' is not subsettable. You don't need to provide the explanation, we can do that - but it's helpful for us to know which error messages are confusing people.
- Words used commonly in R that could be defined in plain language.
An example: closure - what is that? You don't need to provide the definition, we can do that! It's again helpful for us to know which terms are confusing to users.
- Encouragement for new users.
An example: "I once spent three hours trying to understand why I couldn't make my regression work. My supervisor fixed it in three seconds. It happens to all of us!"
- A troubleshooting tip for programming in general or R in particular.
An example: "Use print statements to see what it is you're creating at each step. You can remove these later."
