Purpose of the Staff Council:
The Illinois Tech Staff Council was initiated by the president in 2016 and is comprised of individuals nominated and selected by the university staff. It serves as a function of communication between the staff and the university’s administration.  

The mission of the Illinois Tech Staff Council is to provide communication to leadership, connect staff, create a welcoming community and support the goals of the university. The members of the Staff Council shall proactively make themselves visible and approachable to the community to create a welcoming and inclusive culture, and contribute to the success of the staff and university as leaders on and off the council.

Nomination Process
A staff member may self-nominate or be nominated by another member of staff with the prior approval of the nominee. Nominations must be acknowledged by the nominee’s supervisor, and Nominees who are nominated by a colleague will also need to complete the self-nomination to show that they are interested in pursuing the nomination.

Eligibility Requirements
Illinois Tech employees who are benefits-eligible, full or part-time staff who do not report directly to the President or Provost, and are not represented by the faculty organization.

Participation Requirements
A Staff Council member will serve a two-year term. Members will be expected to participate in the following meetings:

Staff Council General Meeting
Staff Council Meeting with the President and Provost
Staff Council Sub-Committee Meeting (Bi-weekly meetings may be set up leading to events)

Additional time may be committed to special topics meetings and to develop and/or execute council activities. Council membership is voluntary and members will not receive compensation for serving in these positions.

Selection Process
If there are more nominees than available Staff Council seats, there will be an election with all eligible staff members voting. The text you provide may be made public as part of an election ballot.
