2022 Course Development and Redesign Grant Application

With the support of an external grant from the Lilly Endowment, the Program for Leadership and Character is offering Course Development and Redesign Grants to support individual faculty in the College or Professional Schools who are interested in integrating leadership and/or character into their disciplinary or interdisciplinary offerings. Through a partnership with the Center for the Advancement of Teaching, recipients will have the opportunity to learn more about intentional course design, apply research-based strategies to support the holistic development of students, and work with faculty and staff experts to design and assess new courses or modules in their department or school. Applications are encouraged from faculty who wish to approach leadership and character from a variety of disciplines, professions, traditions, or perspectives. Applicants who received grants last year may apply again, though priority will be given to first-time applicants.  

Grants are available in two forms:

• Course Development Grants ($4,000) to develop a new course with a central focus on leadership and/or character
• Course Redesign Grants ($1,000) to redesign a course or develop a new course module or unit with a central focus on leadership and/or character

Requirements of the grant include:

• Completing a brief survey before beginning the workshop
• Attending a summer course development workshop series held in person on WFU campus July 11-13, 2022.
• Designing the module, unit or course on your own between July 15 and August 15, 2022.
• Providing peer review and feedback on another recipient's syllabus or lesson plan.
• Submitting a brief survey, summary report, and a copy of the new syllabus or lesson plan by August 15, 2022.
• Recipients are also expected to attend one session of the Character across the Curriculum Conference held on WFU Campus, tentatively scheduled for Friday, November 5th, 2022.

Faculty may apply here by Friday, May 6, 2022. Recipients will be notified by Monday, May 20, 2022.
