Raq-On Dance's 10th Annual Shimmyathon: 2019 Instructor Submission Form
*NOTE: 2019 SHIMMYATHON WILL BE ALL LIVE MUSIC WORKSHOPS. WHEN SUBMITTING YOUR APPLICATION, PLEASE INCLUDE THE TOPICS AND NAMES OF BANDS YOU WOULD LIKE TO WORK WITH. WE WILL PICK 2 BANDS TO WORK WITH FOR THE EVENT, BASED ON TOPICS SUGGESTED AND STYLES.

We usually have a date set before requesting instructors, however due to the additional organization of dancers and bands, we haven't formalized a date yet. We are targeting Oct 2019.

Two days of non-stop 75 minute classes! Last year over 40 dancers attended Shimmyathon.

We love this event as it allows us to showcase our talented New England instructors (and beyond) in Belly Dance, Middle Eastern Dance, Fusion, and other skill-building genres! We encourage instructors to submit both dance and presentation topics that they are passionate about.

Instructor Requirements:
-Instructors must be trained dancers with at least 5 years of dance and 3 years of teaching experience in their genre.
-Most participants have been dancing 1-7 years and therefore instructors must be willing to teach multi-level workshops.
-Instructors must have their own liability insurance and provide proof to Raq-On prior to the event
-Instructors must fill out a W-9 for tax purposes before receiving payment
-Instructors must promote dance community and collaboration
-Please note space is tight. If you submit a prop class, we assume you know how to rotate a class/work the space.

Compensation:
-Payment is $250 per instructor. Instructors teach two-75 minute classes of the same topic.
-Instructors are responsible for booking own lodging and meal needs.
-Instructors automatically receive a performance slot in show.
-Instructors may bring items and merchandise to sell.
-Instructors can attend as many workshops as they'd like at no charge

Deadline: September 1st, 2018
Preference will be given to those workshops that bring the most variety and depth to the weekend as a whole.
Instructors that can participate for the greater part of the weekend will also receive preference. Well-written, grammatically correct, and detailed descriptions of what dancers will get out of your workshop are your best selling point. The committee first looks at workshop content (names removed) when selecting the first round of applications.
