Huntley 158 Inclement Weather Delayed Start Survey
We want to hear from our community as we consider the development of a delayed start option for inclement weather days. Many of our neighboring districts utilize a delayed start schedule when appropriate as an alternative to canceling school.

The option currently under consideration would entail delaying the start time for all schools by two hours. Services such as bus pickup times would shift two hours later as well, while students would still receive lunch on a modified schedule. Dismissal times would remain as usual, and class periods would be shortened to accommodate the two-hour delay.

This option would only be used under appropriate circumstances: i.e. when inclement weather is ending shortly before the school day is set to begin, and when the two-hour delay will enable plows to clear roadways and ensure safe passage to school for all of our students. We estimate such a schedule would have been an option for 2 of the 4 days cancelled in 2018-19 due to inclement weather.

This conceptual proposal has been discussed by the Superintendent's Parent Advisory Committee and by the Board of Education. However, a decision on adoption of the proposal will be made only after considering feedback from our entire community. We need to hear from YOU!
