MYS Fundraiser for Max Cure Foundation
This September, in recognition of National Childhood Cancer Awareness month, MYS is once again supporting the Max Cure Foundation and its mission to fight childhood cancer by selling gold shoe laces and socks. Gold is the color of childhood cancer. Max Cure's mission includes funding translational childhood cancer research, providing monthly and emergency financial assistance to low income, military and first responder families with a child in active cancer treatment, and advocating for awareness and policy change for children with cancer. Max Cure has funded over $1.6 million in childhood cancer research grants nationwide and internationally; provided over $770,000 directly to families experiencing financial struggles while their child is in active treatment; and given over $40,000 to support psychosocial programs at children's hospitals. Max Cure currently supports 38 families nationwide, including 2 in the Washington Metro Area. Funds raised by this MYS campaign will be used to increase the number of families Max Cure helps support here locally.

The Max Cure Foundation is led by Executive Director Jonathan Agin. Jonathan has two sons who play in MYS rec. and has coached in the MYS system for several years, including recently one of the U11 spring boys all star teams. Jonathan lost his daughter Alexis Agin in January 2011, two weeks shy of her 4th birthday, to a terminal and inoperable brain tumor."
