E-Bike Form
The NSW Parliamentary Inquiry into Use of E-Scooters, E-Bikes and Other Related E-Mobility Options has released its recommendations. Although I encourage you to read them, the key recommendations that are most relevant to Pittwater are:
  • Recommendation 1: The Government provides a framework that supports the use of e-scooters and e-bikes.
  • Recommendation 6 and 7: Update the Road Rules and regulate private use e-bikes and e-scooters in close consultation with communities, local government and enforcement agencies.
  • Recommendation 8: A maximum of 15km/hr on shared paths and footpaths with riders having to give way to pedestrians at all times.
  • Recommendation 9: Training programs and enforcement programs including confiscation of bikes, fines and ability for third parties to report.
  • Recommendation 20: Reduce on-road speed limits to 30-40km/hr in appropriate local government areas.
  • Recommendation 29: Explore a safety test for under 16s.
  • Recommendation 33: Explore insurance, including third party compulsory.
