Manhattan CB1 Public Membership Application
Thank you for your interest in becoming a Public Member of CB1.  Public Members are valued members of our board. They provide expertise in specific areas and allow the board to have working participation from a broader representation within the CB1 district.

The Board Chair appoints each Public Member to one committee for a one-year term. Public Members are full voting members of their committees and are counted in the quorum necessary to vote. Therefore, Public Members must commit to full participation and attendance at their assigned committee. Please note, Public Members do not vote in nor participate in Full Board meetings as members.

Similar to Full Board Members, Public Members must live or work within CB1 or have a significant interest within the community board district. Public Members must also abide by CB1’s by-laws.

Public Members serve at the pleasure of the Board Chair and as such may be removed at any time for substantial non-attendance or other cause at his/her discretion.  Substantial non-attendance is when a public member does not attend three of their assigned committee meetings in a 12 month period, that public member shall be removed from their assigned committee.

If you wish to renew your current one-year term, please fill out the application below. Please note that no application for Public Membership will be considered unless the applicant has attended at least six meetings of their desired committee in the last year.

Applications for public membership are available throughout the year, appointments are made once a year in September or as needs arise. If your application does not result in a committee appointment within 6 months of submission, your application will be closed. We receive many more applications than we have available membership spots, so do not be discouraged if your application is not successful. All Community Board meetings are open for the public to come and observe. At some meetings, there are opportunities for public comment, so one needn’t be a formal public member in order to participate in Community Board One meetings.

Thank you for your interest and we look forward to your participation.

Best regards,

Tammy Meltzer
