Who can apply
***THE SEMINAR IS FULLY ENROLLED AS OF 5/23/17! IF YOU WISH TO APPLY YOU WILL BE ADDED TO OUR WAIT LIST AND INFORMED IF AN OPENING OCCURS. THANK YOU!***

This seminar has limited seating in an effort to maintain practical instruction, and therefore is only open to experienced practitioners who have an **established Japanese Style acupuncture practice.** It does not provide instruction in Japanese acupuncture basics or Kiiko Style. We hate to exclude anybody, and hope you will take advantage of every opportunity to see Kiiko and her approved instructors at seminars taught worldwide! http://kiikomatsumoto.com/kiikos-seminars.html

THIS YEAR'S FEATURED INSTRUCTORS
Kazuto Miyawaki - Matsue Koshiishi - Tomoko Sasaki - Sachiko Noda
Tuesday Dec 6 (morning): Tomoko Sasaki
Sasaki sensei will provide instruction in classical Shonishin, with methods based on the Huang Di Nei Jing and Nan Jing. She was taught by Hitoshi Nagano sensei (長野仁, not to be confused with Kiiko's teacher Kiyoshi Nagano). Sasaki sensei will show us how to use the ginkgo leaf shaped needle “Yoneyama”, as well as a warm moxa technique. Her methods can be applied for both children and adults and can be immediately incorporated into your practice.
Tuesday Dec 6 (afternoon): Sachiko Noda
We are very happy to debut this special guest teacher to our international audience. Noda sensei is the daughter of Yoshihiro Kawai, one of Kiiko Matsumoto's well-known influences and the progenitor of iconic techniques involving diode rings, chains, and kyutoshin. Noda sensei inherited her father's methods and is qualified to present the original Kawai style of acupuncture, an exciting opportunity for students of Kiiko style. In this class she will demonstrate her most practical and commonly used methods involving kyutoshin.
Tues Dec 6 & Weds Dec 7: Kazuto Miyawaki
It is our great honor to re-invite Miyawaki Sensei to teach for two days this year. He is a blind acupuncturist and Osaka native, who is an icon in the Japanese acupuncture community for his experienced approach to treating the 8 Extraordinary Vessels. Miyawaki Sensei will explain these treatments, including his system of hara diagnosis and applications for treating master-couple points with the addition of his complementary 'Super 4' points. With the extra day we will have ample opportunity to practice palpating the abdomen and cross-checking points under his careful supervision. The class will be of particular interest to students who do a palpation-based style like KMS.
Friday Dec 8: Matsue Koshiishi
We are also very honored to re-invite Koshiishi Sensei, based out of Tokyo, who will teach Shiunko-kyu moxibustion. Shiunko-kyu involves direct moxibustion on top of shiunko cream in a way that rapidly spans areas of the body, including traditionally contraindicated areas like the face and sensitive skin, and on active conditions like psoriasis and acne. In 1968, Koshiishi Sensei's teacher, acupuncturist Koichi Ando, used shiunko to treat his aunt’s cancer and developed Shiunko-kyu from this experience. Koshiishi Sensei in turn has deeply researched the technique in all its subtleties in order to apply Shiunko-kyu to extremely diverse situations with efficacy. We will have her re-introduce her basic protocols and then watch her demonstrate on live cases.
Optional guided activities
Monday, Dec 4 (all day):
Day trip to tour moxa factories (morning) and souvenir shopping in Shiga town (afternoon)

Tuesday, Dec 5 (evening):
Visit to famous Namba district in Osaka for dinner and fun

Thursday, Dec 7 (evening):
Group dinner at Japanese restaurant with Kiiko Matsumoto, teachers, students and volunteers.

(Additional costs apply to these activities. More information will go out to accepted applicants.)

Kiiko Japan Study Seminar 2016
Logistics
Class Time/Location:

All classes are approximately 9am-5pm with a lunch break, except we may go later on Tuesday. We guide participants to the classroom location which is very near Shin-Osaka station.

PDA Credits (USA):

Approximately 28 credits pending NCCAOM approval. California CEUs may be available on request for a small additional fee.

Tuition:

$700, includes instruction, English interpreters, gifts for the teachers, and light bento lunches.

Lodging:

We recommend staying at the Toyoko Inn located at Shin-Osaka, Osaka, a comfortable business hotel within walking distance of the class location. The estimated cost per night is $65-$80 for a single. A light breakfast is included in hotel cost. If you would like to double with a roommate to reduce your expense, please let us know in your application below and we can do our best to help. We will communicate with trip participants later about the hotel reservation process.

Travel information:

Travel arrangements and cost are the participant’s separate responsibility. We recommend making your flight arrangements in August or September, and flying early into Japan to assuage your jet lag. The closest airports are Kansai and Itami, near Osaka.

Enjoy some of the beautiful sights and history of the area! Osaka is located in the southern region of Japan, a 30-minute train ride from the outstanding cultural attractions of Kyoto and many more throughout Kansai province. Osaka has its own attractions including a famous castle, the vibrant Namba market, a 7-story aquarium, and more.

Deposit schedule and refunds:

A $100 non-refundable deposit is due if your application is accepted in order to reserve your place (see below). The remaining trip balance ($600) is due by September 1st. We have set the tuition as low as possible, and therefore we must have a strict cancellation policy so we can be sure to cover our expenses. If you are accepted to the seminar, the $100 deposit is non-refundable. Other tuition amounts are reimbursable by 50% in case of cancellations before September 30th, after which the trip tuition is non-refundable.

Kiiko sensei's Saturday class:

Kiiko Matsumoto *does not teach* at the Japan Study Seminar although she is involved in selecting our guest instructors and will be present. Kiiko sensei will teach a separate full-day seminar on Saturday, Dec 9, the day after our seminar, in Osaka, in Japanese. If you would like to attend with English interpretation this will be available to a limited number of people (we provide an option below to check if you're interested).

Application deadline and selection process
***THE SEMINAR IS FULLY ENROLLED AS OF 5/23/17! IF YOU WISH TO APPLY YOU WILL BE ADDED TO OUR WAIT LIST AND INFORMED IF AN OPENING OCCURS. THANK YOU!***

You must be a licensed, practicing acupuncturist to apply. Again, please do not apply if you are not already experienced in Japanese style. Since it is a more advanced level workshop we do not recommend this trip for practitioners who are very recent graduates, unless you have been apprenticing in Japanese style acupuncture.

Previous Kiiko Japan seminars filled up very quickly. We estimate the application process will be closed by **May 20** but we may close earlier if we receive a high volume of applications. Application is NOT a guarantee of enrollment-- we will be in touch after we close the application process to let you know your status. Preference will be given to applications submitted early and to seniority in KMS or other Japanese style acupuncture.

Please be patient until after we close the application period, when we will inform everyone of their status. If you have any questions that aren't answered on this webpage, please contact Grace Rollins at kiikojapantrip@gmail.com.
