ALL SCHOOL PROM INFORMATION/EXPECTATIONS
Dear Parents and Guardians,
Last year, The Academy prom was disrupted by students who intentionally brought prohibited items to the event that included: tobacco, alcohol, and cannabis. This incredible breach of trust forced faculty and staff to spend the entire weekend responding to the most significant disciplinary incident to impact The All School Prom in years. Furthermore, the implications for seniors who violated our code of conduct were grave, including the loss of privileges related to some culminating activities of their senior year.
It is imperative that you read the following information carefully before signing the consent form for your child to attend prom. These rules are in place to ensure the safety of all attending the event.
The 2023 All-School Prom will be held on Friday May 17th at Loft on Lake, located at 1366 W. Lake Street, in Chicago. The hours of the event are from 7:00 pm - 10:30 pm, and Friday will be a non-attendance day for all students.
Parents, please read and discuss the following information with your student knowing that Prom is an Academy-sanctioned event and all rules detailed in the School Handbook are in effect.
Note Changes to Bag Policy & Important Information Regarding Entrance to Prom
No bags will be allowed at Prom.
This includes, but is not limited to the following: backpacks, cinch bags, duffle bags, overnight bags, tote bags, satchels, etc. Small purses or sling bags may be admitted following a bag inspection by faculty or staff prior to entry. Any attempt to bring in a bag that violates this policy will result in the bag being confiscated and held until Monday morning.
The Academy understands that some students do not go directly home after this event. These students should make arrangements in advance to have their belongings available to them.
Students carrying purses or small sling bags will be subjected to inspection before entering the Porm
Students and guests wearing clothing with pockets will be asked to empty and turn out their pockets before entering the Prom
Guests of Academy students must present a valid ID
The following items are not allowed and will be confiscated and not returned. This may also result in the parent being required to pick up their student and guest immediately from prom, and possible disciplinary action:
Any student who appears to be under the influence of alcohol or drugs will not be admitted to, or will be removed from, Prom. The emergency contact will be required to pick up their child immediately at Loft on Lake. Students will not be allowed to leave via ride share, taxi, or public transportation.
Arrival/Dismissal and Parking Information
A parent or guardian must be designated as an emergency contact for the event, and must provide a phone number where they can be reached.
The emergency contact will be notified by phone if the student does not arrive by 8:00 pm.
Students who arrive later than 8:00 pm will not be allowed entrance to the event.
Students who drive to Prom will not be allowed to access their car during Prom. Once a student exits the venue to go to their car, they will not be readmitted to Prom.
Families will not be notified if the child leaves Prom before 10:30 pm.
Students are allowed to leave Prom on their own, at any time. Once they exit the venue, they will not be readmitted.
Families are responsible for knowing how their child will arrive at and depart from Prom. The Academy will not provide or arrange for transportation. There are several parking lots near the venue and students are encouraged to identify parking prior to arriving using ParkChicago for street parking or Spot Hero for paid lots
If you are picking up your student from Prom, please arrive promptly by 10:30 pm.
Faculty and Staff chaperones will be dismissed from supervision duties promptly at 10:45 pm.
