Synopsis: The Backyard Farm and Market at Erin Mills is a small, urban food hub and farmers' market in Mississauga, Ontario. The project offers the Mississauga community the opportunity to access, learn and eat local, sustainably sourced food in a fun and community-engaging environment. The Backyard provides opportunities for people to experience growing their own food and accessing food from local farmers and food artisans. The market runs on Saturdays from 9 am to 1 pm, June to the end of September or beginning of October. Located on the North East corner of Eglinton Ave. West & Erin Mills Pkwy, this innovative project began with the vision of The Daniels Corporation to take their empty 1.5 acre lot and create a partnership with Hoffmann Hayes to develop an oasis of urban agriculture and a farmers’ market where the people of Mississauga can reconnect to healthy, local food. What Can you Find at the Market?: ● Farmers Market - inspiring vendors - local farms & artisanal producers including pesticide/chemical fertilizer free produce ● Gardens - individual and community food garden plots● Healthy Food Eco Kitchen - cooking demonstrations and sharing food in a no-waste kitchen● Music - local musicians performing live● Kids Play Spaces & Recreational Areas - sandbox, purchase a healthy snack/drink and enjoy it sitting in the urban farm/gardens● Thriving Eco-Systems! Wildlife bird sanctuary, ravine, native plant species We welcome the community to join us on any (or every!) Saturday and enjoy delicious, sustainable, local food directly from our farmers' and artisanal producers.
