Being Together: Exploring depth and lightness in community
"From time to time, to remind ourselves to relax and be peaceful, we may wish to set aside some time for a retreat, a day of mindfulness, when we can walk slowly, smile, drink tea with a friend, enjoy being together as if we are the happiest people on Earth."

Thich Nhat Hanh

6pm Thursday 30th August until 2pm Sunday 2nd September
Dear Friends,

You're invited to join us on a special summer retreat with the theme of Being Together, where we'll explore depth and lightness in community.

This is an opportunity to practice mindfulness in the Plum Village tradition, in the beautiful natural surroundings at the Quandrangle Trust, a peaceful countryside venue in Kent.

We'll enjoy sinking deeper in the practice, connecting deeply with ourselves and each other in the present moment. The space has a forest and a wild swimming river!

We look forward to spending a beautiful weekend with you.

The retreat is aimed for young people aged 18-35ish. We are not always super strict on the upper limit, but if you are much older than 35 this might not be the most appropriate retreat for you. If in doubt, please get in touch with us! (events@wakeuplondon.org)

What's your connection to Wake Up London? *
Due to limited spaces we give priority to people who practice regularly with us at Wake Up London, but we try to be an open and inclusive bunch so please do fill in the booking form if you are interested.
Can you attend the whole retreat? *
This is a very short retreat, to support the collective energy of practice and to make everything go smoothly, we would really like it if everyone can make it from the orientation at 8pm on the Thursday evening until the close at 2pm on the Sunday. If the answer is no please let us know below. We may give priority to people who can stay the whole time.
Venue + Travel
This year's summer retreat will be at the Quadrangle Trust in the beautiful countryside just South-East of London.

The retreat centre is super easy to get to - 1 hour door to door from London Victoria or London Blackfriars, including a short walk from the station to the venue (no taxis needed).

The venue is a simple space, with a lot of contact with nature, and includes permaculture gardens and a small swimming stream. There is a large barn where we will be hosting most of our communal activities as well as many outdoor spaces.

The accomodation and food options will be rustic and simple, with a large dormitory adjoining the barn, camping spaces in the permaculture gardens, a large yurt and 1960s caravan!

Lovely walks are to be had through the surrounding countryside.

There are a good range of options for accommodation on this retreat, but as much as possible we're encouraging camping to help us reconnect to the natural world and the joys of simple living. There are 4 options.
Bringing my own tent to camp in
Staying in a mixed caravan or yurt
Staying in a mixed dorm
Staying in a single-sex dorm or room

My minimum requirement would be ...
Everyone coming on the retreat will need to bring their own sleeping bag and pillow - please let us know if you need help with this.
All food will be VEGAN. Please let us know if you have any other essential dietary requirements.

Anything else?
Please let us know here if you have and particular needs or requirements (such as needing a private room, wheelchair access etc.) We will do our best to accommodate everyone's needs, however please be aware as a small volunteer team our powers are pretty limited - but we promise to try our best :)

Is there anything you'd particularly like to see at the retreat or like to offer?
Our intention is to create a beautiful peer-led space, with ideas and offerings from many people in the sangha. We'd love to hear your thoughts.

The retreat is run by volunteers and is peer facilitated. We work hard to make it as affordable as possible. Money goes towards accommodation, food and expenses only.

This retreat costs £40 per-person, per-day to run so the standard rate is set at £120 for people who want to cover their own costs to be there - however we offer a number of discounted places for people in need and also offer the chance for people to donate a bit extra to allow that to happen.

Please think carefully about which option is right for you and know that you are really welcome whatever your circumstances.

We will send you an invoice a few days after we receive your booking. Please pay this within 3 days to secure your place. If you do not pay the balance in full, your place may be offered to someone else. Let us know if this is difficult for you.

As we are all volunteers, we would rather you didn't cancel as this makes things a lot harder for us if you do.

For all cancellations, 50% refund if we can find someone to take your place.

Our email is events@wakeuplondon.org if you have any questions. Please do not hesitate to contact us.
