Thank you to our awesome volunteers who helped survey trash in the last two consecutive years, This summer, we hope to continue this community science effort to get a big picture of the overall trash problem in our watershed.

From the last VTA study, we learned that some landuse types have more trash than others. Our VTA survey concludes that Commercial, Industrial, and Multi-Family Residential areas are the most trash-generating streets in our watershed. For This year we will be narrowing down our research and only focusing on one city i.e the City of Everett

To do this, we need volunteers to help perform another set of visual assessments of litter in priority areas. This quick and indispensable measurement helps us determine the most polluted streets for further study; those locations will be tagged to collect and categorize the existing trash. The data YOU collect will then inform decisions on how to keep the Mystic trash-free!

So what exactly will volunteering entail?

1. Visit your assigned location (we encourage you to bring a friend) and perform the visual trash assessment,* preferably sometime in late August and early September

3. Let us know if you'd like to visit another site!

*sites will take approximately one hour to cover, instructions and site assignments will be emailed after your form is submitted - no experience necessary!
