Welcome to the Lilydale High School Instrumental Music Department. We have qualified and experienced teachers in Woodwind, Brass, Percussion/Drum Kit, Guitar, Piano and Voice readily available for students to learn and develop their musical skills.
As part of the program, students will have one lesson a week on a rotating timetable throughout the term on their lesson day. This is to ensure lessons do not interfere with their studies. As part of their lessons, students will also gain experience performing as part of our band and ensemble program. Students who currently learn an instrument externally from school are welcomed into our band/ensemble program as well.
We have two different Instrumental Music Tuition Schemes:
DEPARTMENT OF EDUCATION INSTRUMENTAL LESSONS These lessons are offered at no cost other than instrument hire/cost (if available).

Limited hire is available through the school. Instrument hire fees are $150. By the second year of lessons, it is recommended that students purchase their own instrument to enhance their learning.
PRIVATE TUITION INSTRUMENTAL LESSONS These lessons are offered with fees varying between instruments, but complying with Victorian Music Association requirements. Lessons require payment directly to the instrumental teacher and is a completely private arrangement between the student, parent/guardian and the instrumental teacher.

PIANO – Private lessons only
Students are enrolled in the program on a first in, first served basis. Once you have received enrolment confirmation, students will receive one lesson a week on a rotating timetable throughout the term on their designated lesson day. Once your child has been accepted into the program, you will be able to liaise directly with the Instrumental Staff.
BAND AND ENSEMBLE PROGRAMAll Instrumental Music Students are expected to participate in a band or ensemble as part of their lessons. Students who currently learn an instrument externally from the school program are also welcome to take part in the school bands/ensembles. Students perform regularly as part of their band/ensemble at concerts, workshops and events throughout the year.
At the conclusion of the year, students who show commitment, dedication and musical excellence are nominated by the Instrumental Music staff to receive the Instrumental Music Award for their year level.
