Myrtle Beach C.A.P.T.U.R.E.

The CAPTURE program is an acronym that stands for Community Awareness Program Through Utilizing Residential/Business Eyes, or MB CAPTURE as we like to call it. Video surveillance is one of the best methods for apprehending criminals and convicting suspects who are caught in the act of committing a crime.

How does the CAPTURE Program work?

No individual or agency working alone can prevent crime; it takes police and citizens working in partnership. The Myrtle Beach Police Department is committed to strengthening our partnership. Many residents and businesses currently operate surveillance systems at their businesses and/or homes. As crimes occur nearby, you are not always aware that their system may have C.A.P.T.U.R.E. information that could help solve a crime or provide police with vital information. In turn, we are also not always aware who may have this potentially vital information. The CAPTURE program connects Myrtle Beach Police officers with citizens who have surveillance video. The registration does not give the Myrtle Beach Police Department access to your camera system but allows our agency to maintain a database of active cameras in the event an incident occurs in the area. This program is 100% voluntary and citizens and business owners can opt-out at any time.

How does the CAPTURE Program benefit the community?
Deter crime and promote public safety through collaboration with your local law enforcement agencies. By registering your camera(s) with us, the Department can quickly identify nearby cameras that may have captured criminal activity. After registering your camera, you would only be contacted by the Myrtle Beach Police Department if there is a criminal incident in the vicinity of your security camera. Police personnel, if necessary, may request to view your camera footage to assist in the investigation.

Registration
If you would like to tell us that you have video surveillance and allow our team to contact you, should a crime occur in or near where your cameras are installed, we kindly ask that you let us know by filling out our registration form below.

Information provided to the Myrtle Beach Police Department regarding your camera systems will be for official use only. Your personal information will remain confidential and not be distributed except as required by law or court order.
