Dear Member of Congress,
As brain tumor patients and family members, we urge you to support efforts to raise awareness of and increase federal research on brain tumors. May is “Brain Tumor Awareness Month,” and in honor of those living with a brain tumor, and the many who have lost a loved one to this devastating disease, we ask you to support these specific initiatives in Congress:
•Brain Cancer Research at the Department of Defense (DoD): Support continued funding for the Peer Reviewed Cancer Research Program (PRCRP), which funds research into pediatric brain tumors. Expand research to include “brain cancer” as a condition eligible for study by the PRCRP in the fiscal year 2017 Defense Appropriations Act.
•The Childhood Cancer Survivorship, Treatment, Access and Research (STAR) Act (S. 1883/H.R. 3381): Cosponsor and support passage of this legislation to advance pediatric cancer research, help kids get access to life-saving care, and maximize childhood cancer survivors’ quality of life. Work to include the STAR Act in the final version of the “21st Century Cures Act.”
•Brain Tumor Awareness Month Resolution (H.Res. 679): Co-sponsor and support passage of this resolution to designate the month of May, 2016 as “Brain Tumor Awareness Month.”
