Destination: Old Rag Mountain, Shenandoah National Park
Trip Timing: We will be meeting at 8:30AM at the Honors townhouse and breakfast will provided before we get on the bus. We will hike the 9 mile loop that extends around Old Rag which features narrow passageways, rock scrambles, and gorgeous views of the Shenandoah valley. Lunch will be provided. After completing the 9 mile circuit we will drive back to campus arriving approximately at 6:00 PM.
Description of Activity:Come join us for a day of hiking with GW TRAiLS. The Old Rag hike is a trademark favorite for DC hikers and features challenging rock scrambles and stunning views of the Shenandoah valley. Located in the heart of Shenandoah National Park the mountain trail has a fun 2 mile section of scrambling and sliding through and around granite boulders on the way to the summit.
** This is an advanced hike, it is 9 miles with a lot of elevation change and rock scrambles.
Trip Cost: $5 (Cash only, bring to the Honors townhouse by 4/11)
Packing List: - 2 Filled Water Bottles- (*IMPORTANT*) Hiking Boots or athletic shoes (no Keds, Uggs, Converse, etc.) - Comfortable, non-movement-restraining clothes, dress in layers for the time of year- Raincoat - Daypack to carry your belongings - Camera (optional), Sunglasses (optional)
While measures have been taken by TRAiLS and its Guides to minimize any risks, it is the responsibility of the participant to be advised of the risks, accept responsibility for them, and to comply with all recommendations made by the TRAiLS Guides. Failure to do so may result in the dismissal of the individual from that particular trip, as well as from future TRAiLS activities.
