LINHA DE FUGA :: APPLICATION FORM :: INTERNATIONAL LABORATORY FOR ARTISTIC CREATION 2022
LINHA DE FUGA is an international performing arts laboratory and festival that will take place between September 16 and October 9, 2022, in Coimbra.
The submission of this form represents the application to participate in the laboratory, an instance of training and meeting between national and foreign artists for the exchange of artistic practices.

Chrysa Parkinson (SUE), Cristian Duarte (BRA), João Maria André (POR), Frédéric Gies (SUE) are the artists/guests of this edition to guide seminars and workshops at the Laboratory.

The Laboratory will bring together 15 professionals from the arts (theater, dance, video, music, writing,…) who are interested in confronting their projects and their practices with those of the invited artists and their peers. Participants are selected by this international open call.
Each participant is challenged to share a work in progress, a research or a community action proposal (which may be at different stages of development) that will be their object of investigation in the lab.

The goal is to promote the confrontation of artistic practices, in a process of collective and participatory work, which will be developed in a field of experimentation, learning and knowledge sharing. Conceived as an ephemeral temporal collective, LINHA DE FUGA will have moments of collective work (where participants can present, discuss and develop their artistic projects in relation to other creators and other practices) and periods of individual work, where they can choose different methodologies (collaboration with other participants, individual accompaniment with invited artists or development of their own research).

In the this edition we want to think about the ethics of care. After two years in which the most heard words were COVID-19 and pandemic, where we suffered from the self-repression of social isolation and a spectrum of collective depression, will caring for the Other (understood as caring for the Common Good) have the radical potential to facilitate dialogue, understanding and social transformation? And what would be the role of art in this debate? At a time when a war lurks in our daily lives, we consider this focus even more important, looking at the Other with the tenderness and sympathy necessary to generate less imbalances on this unique planet that is ours. In a society with democratic principles, we consider care the essential basis for living with less imbalance.

By proposing this discussion, we intend to draw attention to situations of vulnerability — pandemics, wars and many other situations — that exist in the world, and the inequalities that these can cause in intersocial relationships. But we also want to make visible the creative power of new forms of existence arising from what is invisible, silent, ambiguous, fragile, itinerant and disappeared in a world undergoing radical transformation.

In this open call we open also one or two places for documenters whose function is to document the entire laboratory and its practices from a subjective and critical perspective and whose intention is to give back to society a way of documenting the ephemeral and practices of knowledge transmission.

In the case of collective applications, interested parties must make separate applications and mention in section 4 who are the elements part of the project.

Deadline for application: 22 april 2022

The submission of this application means the acceptance of the open call guidelines that can be consulted at www.linhadefuga.pt
