A meeting of minds: How can we bring intersectional feminism into K-12 classrooms?

An opportunity for academics, artists, supporters, and K-12 teachers to

1) Build bridges between gender/feminist/social justice work at the university level and teaching in K-12 schools

2) Explore new ways of teaching young learners, especially at co-ed and boys’ schools, about women, gender,* and intersectional feminism to young learners

3) Share effective gender-inclusive classroom practices and resources

4 ) Strategize ways shift NYS learning standards and practices to include rich material on women and gender in the K-12 curriculum

FORMAT: A collaborative workshop (about an hour) to share ideas and get organized followed by an informal reception with drinks and light snacks so that we can get to know one another.

LOCATION: West Harlem Location TBD (based on numbers)

Attendance is free and open to all.

Inclusivity Philosophy: We are dedicated to teaching an intersectional approach to gender that celebrates, and explores women's experiences and includes considerations of race, ethnicity, culture, socioeconomic background, family, sexual orientation, disability, and life experience. We accept that women and gender are terms that mean different things at different times to different people and we are open to discussing their usefulness.
