Project BUBBLES

Project BUBBLES (Babies – Understanding Brain and Baseline Longitudinal EEG Study): focused on brain and behavior development during the first 4 years with a focus on emerging thinking and self-regulation skills.

As part of this longitudinal study, you would visit us when your infant is 6 or 12 months of age, with two lab visits per year (every 6 months) until 4 years of age.  During these visits, your child will play games with us while wearing a little sensor cap to collect brain-wave activity (EEG).  You would complete online questionnaires before each visit and there is a zoom session about 10 days after the lab visit with additional child games and activities.

You will receive $50 cash at each lab visit for pre-lab visit questionnaires (online) plus lab visit. There is a $15 electronic gift card for the post-lab remote visit. Your child will receive a small gift beginning at the 18 month visit.

This study is a multi-site project with families participating at Virginia Tech and University of Connecticut CAP Labs.

*This study has been approved by the Virginia Tech Institutional Review Board (#21-1048).

*This study has been funded by the National Institutes of Health (R01 HD104945).

The baby BEAR study

babyBEAR study (Behavior, Emotion And Regulation): focused on the foundations of personality.

This research study involves seven “visits” between the time your infant is 2 and 24 months of age. The 2 month visit is an online questionnaire. The next five visits are in our research lab when your child is between 6 and 18 months. During these visits your infant will play games with us while they sit in your lap and in a highchair beside you and wear a little sensor cap to collect brain-wave activity (EEG). Online questionnaires are to be completed at each visit. The final visit at 24 months focuses on questionnaires, an interview, and your child will play some games with us.

You will receive a $25 Amazon gift card for the online questionnaires at 2 months. You will receive $50 cash for lab visits between 6 and 10 months and $75 cash for visits between 12 and 18 months. You will receive $100 cash for the final visit.

This study is nationwide with research being done at Washington State University, Florida Atlantic University, and with local families participating at Virginia Tech.

*This study has been approved by the Washington State University Institutional Review Board (#13370).

*This study has been funded by the National Institutes of Health (R01 MH125800).
