My name is Ahmoy, and I am an artist and educator based in Seattle! I teach knot tying classes to a variety of ages, and sell Chinese knots as jewelry through my small business Xiao Quilt. I have taught knot tying workshops with the Wing Luke Museum, Reclaim Clay Collective, and University Child Development School.

Lucky Knot class

In this beginner friendly class, participants learn how to tie the Lucky Knot 吉祥结 (Jíxiáng jié). Participants learn how to tie the knot using instructions I designed, and how to create traditional wall hangings using stone discs and tassels. Additionally, they'll learn modern applications of the knot in jewelry and charms. Participants have access to my extensive bead collection, including wooden, stone, and porcelain beads I’ve collected in my travels to Asia. Each participant will take home at least one key chain, and one wall hanging.

Pan Zhang class

In this more advanced class, participants learn how to tie the Mystic Knot 盘长结 (Pán zhǎng jié), as well as its cultural and spiritual significance. They learn how to tie the knot using instructions I designed, and how to create traditional wall hangings using stone discs and tassels. Participants have access to my extensive bead collection, including wooden, stone, and porcelain beads I’ve collected in my travels to Asia. Each participant will take home at least one keychain, and one wall hanging. 

Bracelet Making Class

In this beginner friendly class, participants will learn how to use Chinese knots 中国结 (Zhōngguójié) and Korean knots 매듭 (maedeub) to create beautiful bracelets. Participants will be given knot tying instructions designed by me. They will learn how to incorporate clasps, beads, and discs into their creations. Each participant will take home at least two bracelets, as well as the knot tying instructions I make.

Jade

There is an option for there to be jade discs and beads available at these classes. Jade is very expensive and precious, and is seen in many traditional wall hangings and jewelry pieces. Jade is an additional $50-$300 depending on the size of the class.

Additional Slideshow

In addition to being a knot and jade artist, I am also a historian, and I've prepared presentations about the history of Chinese knots and jade. In order to give this presentation, I need access to some kind of screen/ projector. It’s free!

I can teach a class as large as 15 people.

I have taught all age groups! I recommend the beginner classes for children.

I am based in Seattle, and can teach a class within the city. If you would like for me to teach a class at another location, I can do so, if travel and lodging (if applicable) expenses are paid.

Please provide 5 times you would like this workshop to occur. Workshops take 2 hours. I need at least a months notice before a workshop.
