Please join us for a stimulating program which will include information about Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction (MBSR) and an overview of the research results (including benefits for older people). Experiential exercises will be integrated throughout the program followed by a question and answer period.
MBSR was developed by Jon Kabat-Zinn, PhD, at the University of Massachusetts Medical School over 35 years ago. MBSR has been shown to help with chronic pain, anxiety, depression and sleep. It has also been shown to boost the immune system and improve structures of the brain associated with memory, learning and executive function.
Jessica Drew de Paz, Psy.D., coordinates mindfulness programs at UC Irvine’s Susan Samueli Integrative Health Institute. With over 20 years of experience at the University of California, she has served as a clinical psychologist, led diversity efforts, and overseen health and safety training. In collaboration with UC Irvine’s Environmental Health & Safety department, Jessica is researching how mindfulness impacts workplace health and safety. In addition, she teaches mindfulness to youth in school settings. She is honored to share her passion for mindful living.
