2020 Wicked Loud Youth Poetry Festival (TEAMS ONLY) Registration Form
By filling out this form you are registering a TEAM to participate in the 2020 Wicked Loud Youth Poetry Festival. Welcome!

IMPORTANT NOTES:
This registration form is for TEAMS ONLY. Indy registration will be released in December.

A spot for your team is not officially reserved until we receive your registration fee. Depending on the volume of teams this year, you may be placed on a waiting list. If this is the case, we will contact you immediately.

Teams are comprised of 4 (minimum) to 6 (maximum) teen poets, along with up to two adult chaperons.
You will need to have all youth members of your team confirmed by February 1st, 2020, when we will send out a Team Member Information Form that must include all final team member names.

Outside of Massachusetts? For the first time, schools and youth organizations from outside the state are welcome to attend and participate in this festival in a non-tournament-competitive track. Workshops, performance opportunities, open mics, showcases will be offered and we will work with teams outside of Massachusetts to ensure that the young people you serve have a rewarding festival experience outside of the poetry slam tournament.

There will be a number of important changes in the "poetry slam" competition aspect of our festival. Mass LEAP wishes to focus more on community building, offering more support to participating teams, more resources and more activities at the festival that are not competition based. With this in mind, for the first time, we are offering a non-competitive registration tract for communities who wish to connect in other ways besides competition.

An official rule book for the slam will be offered in December, but for now, some changes to our tournament guidelines will be outlined in this survey. Feel free to direct questions at info@massleap.org

*** Lastly, Mass LEAP festival organizing team wishes to implement a "site visit" for every team registering for the 2020 Festival. Especially for new communities, our team feels it's critical to pay a visit, offer support, answer questions and welcome you to our family. Since this is a first time aspect of the festival, we offer a commitment to schedule a visit to your school or youth org, get to know you and the young people you serve, talk poetry, talk festival and get an opportunity to help get your team (maybe) even more excited to connect! ***

JUDGES for Preliminary Weekend.
In order to guarantee judging panels for preliminaries, we ask participating communities to provide 3 judges for March13th-15th weekend. These judges can be parents, teachers, administrators, friends, youth from your clubs, friends or family in Boston area, poetry fans, etc.

Selected judges will score poems for slams in which their community is NOT competing, while still having the opportunity to see and support their teams.

Judges will only work one poetry slam match and we will do our best to place them in a preferred time slot.

Teams that do not contribute to supporting this effort will incur a $25 proxy fee per missing judge.
Are you committed to providing 3 judges for LTAB Preliminaries on March 13th - March 15th? *
REGISTRATION FEE: Sliding Scale System
**** In an effort to promote social and economic equity in access and representation for this festival.
In the spirit of securing more resources to support core festival organizers and professional teaching artists (often long time volunteers and underpaid staff), Mass LEAP is presenting the following community registration fee schedule, based on Massachusetts Town & City / Family Median Income Statistics, outlined in https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_Massachusetts_locations_by_per_capita_income

$60K & less - $200 per team
$60-$80K - $250 per team
$80-$100K - $300 per team
$100-$125K - $350 per team
$125 and up - $400 per team

Beyond these measures, we ask that Private & Parochial schools as well as (non-school) Youth Organizations with operating budgets of over $250K per year, add an additional $50 above these considerations.

We offer scholarships for schools who communicate with us and might be faced with a challenge that limits them from participating otherwise. We will also work with you if travel and other considerations offer a substantial challenge for your community.

SITE VISIT - Our festival organizers and/or Mass LEAP staff would love the opportunity to visit your space and meet youth poets and mentors before the festival. Let us know if club meeting, practice, open mic, special event might work and we will do what we can to come through! Please be as specific as you can re: time of day, day of the week, time frame, etc. *
