regarding your organization's potential participation in the coalition communications campaign regarding the true costs of oil & gas extraction in Colorado (CO). This campaign is at the early stages, currently gauging interest and capacity within the movement and seeking funding to support the joint effort.
Despite legislative and regulatory changes in recent years meant to address environmental and health impacts, fracking continues to expand, invading our communities with ~1,000 new wells permitted each year. There are over 48,000 oil & gas wells active in CO, and now the industry is planning significant expansion into the population centers especially in disproportionately impacted communities. Oil and gas extraction is CO's #1 source of climate pollution and severe ozone air pollution.
Unfortunately, the average Coloradan is not aware of the facts that would drive greater engagement in the issue. The oil and gas industry continues to spread disinformation and propaganda to mislead and confuse Coloradans about fracking's impacts on our health, economy, local environment, and climate.
To win meaningful policy change and rein in the oil & gas industry, we need our community united, engaged, and taking action! More effective public education and communications must be a major prong in the multi-prong approach - that's why we're developing this coalition communications campaign. This campaign is in its early stages, and it is currently seeking funding and gauging interest and capacity within the movement.
