Research dialogues: Call for Presentation Proposals & Participant Applications

Research Dialogues is a jointly organised discussion series by The Philosophy Project and Let’s Talk Tattva, envisioned as an active research community for early-career researchers in philosophy, particularly current PhD candidates.

The series invites both presenters and participants to engage in sustained, rigorous dialogue around ongoing research. Participation is premised on active engagement, including prior reading of circulated papers and meaningful contribution to discussions.

CODE OF CONDUCT & TERMS OF PARTICIPATION

Research Dialogue is a scholarly space for the presentation and discussion of working papers and ongoing research. Participation is subject to the following terms, which are intended to ensure an ethical, respectful, and intellectually honest engagement.

1. Confidentiality & Intellectual Property

All working papers, presentations, and discussions shared during this session are confidential. Participants must not copy, record, reproduce, circulate, quote, publish, or otherwise use any material presented, in whole or in part, without the explicit prior consent of the author.

All intellectual property remains with the author(s).

2. Non-Plagiarism & Academic Integrity

Participants agree not to appropriate or reuse ideas, arguments, frameworks, data, or language shared during the dialogue for their own academic, professional, or public work. Any future use of overlapping ideas must follow established citation norms and require the author’s consent where applicable.

3. Standards of Engagement

Participants are expected to engage with the work and with each other in a professional, respectful, and collegial manner.

Unnecessary, dismissive, personal, sarcastic, or hostile comments are not permitted. This space is not intended for intellectual point-scoring or adversarial debate.

4. Constructive Criticism

Critical feedback is welcome and encouraged when it is constructive, specific, and academically grounded.

Criticism should focus on arguments, methods, or conceptual frameworks, not on the author as a person. Participants are encouraged to ask clarifying questions, offer suggestions, or propose alternative approaches.

5. Sensitivity to Power & Positionality

Participants are expected to remain attentive to power dynamics, positionality, and lived experience, particularly in discussions involving caste, gender, sexuality, race, disability, class, or other marginalised identities. Dismissal or trivialisation of such experiences will not be tolerated.

6. Safe & Inclusive Space

Harassment, discrimination, or derogatory language of any kind is prohibited. The moderator reserves the right to intervene, redirect the discussion, or ask participants to leave if these terms are violated.

7. Recording & Documentation

No audio, video, or written recording of the session is permitted without the explicit consent of all participants. Personal notes, if taken, must remain private and may not be shared or published.

8. Voluntary Participation

Participation in online sessions is voluntary for non-presenters.

9. Acceptance of Terms

By participating in this research dialogue, participants confirm that they have read, understood, and agreed to abide by this Code of Conduct.
