The Music Technology Program successfully applied to the Department of Education for endorsement as a Specialist Program in 2011 for commencement in 2012. Enrolments in Music Technology have steadily increased and enrolment applications for the 2018 class exceeded places available. The education pathway has been firmly established through to a Certificate II in Music Industry.
The program continues to attract industry support and recognition through developing partnerships with local event management companies (DG Global events agency http://www.dgglobal.com.au/), Street Hassle Events management (http://www.streethassle.com.au/), the City of Cockburn and national and international recording artists including John Butler, Kav Temperley (Eskimo Joe), Dami Im (X Factor Winner 2013), Che’Nelle and Courtney Murphy.Students also perform in numerous corporate, community events and competitions throughout the year.
The Specialist Music Technology Program has rapidly gained a reputation for excellence in contemporary music and in recording/production/performance. Our students are in high demand for performances all over Perth.Students selected for the Specialist Music Technology Program, need to demonstrate special ability and a passionate interest in music production/recording and performance.The following selection process will apply:
1. There are 15 positions for each year allocated, extra applicants then will be put onto a reserve waiting list.
2. Applicants need to contact the Music Specialist Coordinator on 9412 3100 to arrange an audition time.
3. Audition and interview times are Monday mornings 8:00 - 8:30am
4. All applicants will be notified in writing if they are successful/unsuccessful.
5. All applicants referees will be checked.
The audition requires students to perform two contrasting pieces that demonstrate a good indication of their ability (This may be recorded). A short aural test will be conducted, which may include singing, playing an instrument or showcasing a portfolio of work created on a computer which needs to be demonstrated (not just playing the composition on a CD or iPod).Successful applicants will be required to participate fully in the program including after hours activities such as rehearsals, camps, ensembles and competitions. Should an out-of-boundary student withdraw from this program, or not achieve at the required level of performance, his/her enrolment at Lakeland Senior High School will be reviewed.
