Nelson County Citizens Academy
The Citizens Police Academy provides an opportunity for citizens to learn firsthand about police/sheriff operations and give input on how law enforcement might provide better service. Through a series of lectures, ride a longs and demonstrations, citizens are provided the ability to learn important aspects of the agency. The academy is a benefit to both the Sheriff's Office and the community as it helps to build relationships and creates a cadre of citizens who are better informed about the reality of police work. This class will meet each Monday for a period of seven consecutive weeks at the Nelson County Sheriff’s Office from 6:30 P.M. to 8:30 P.M. This class will start Nov 6th 2023 until December 11th, 2023.
Citizens Academy Requirements:
Applicants Must Be 18 Years Of Age
Applicants with a Felony conviction will be considered on an individual basis for acceptance. You must not have any criminal or civil actions pending against you.
Applicants must be willing to sign a waiver releasing the County of Nelson and the Nelson County Sheriff’s Department from any liability or injury
You should make every effort to attend all classes and give notice to the Nelson County Sheriff’s Department if you are unable to attend an evening. Attendance at four of the six classes is required for graduation.
