Porcelain painting, is the decoration of glazed porcelain ware such as plates, bowls, vases or statues etc. The development started in China in the 7th or 8th century and It was developed in China and later taken up in Korea and then Japan. Trade with Europe began in the 16th century.

In the later part of the 19th century china painting became a respectable hobby for middle-class women in North America and Europe. More recently interest has revived in china painting as a fine art form.

c!ab has been granted full funding to invite professional instructor Terese Chan to lead students into the journey of hand painting porcelain, in which the designs would be composed of prints of animals and plants. We hope students can learn more about the craft through this course and also go through the meditative experience of connecting with nature through art. After the workshop is complete, we would like to put up a temporary exhibition to display our participant's work in the college gallery.
