MAYSO 2024-2025 Registration

Thank you for your interest in MAYSO! The music directors are busy planning and eagerly anticipating the start of our 2024-2025 season. MAYSO is offering North Star Strings and Youth Symphony Orchestra ensembles for fall session. We have great music on the docket and cannot wait to hear the first notes when we start in September!

FALL AND WINTER SESSIONS (September - March)

Rehearsals and auditions take place at Ylvisaker Fine Arts Center at Bethany Lutheran College in Mankato, MN.

North Star Strings (NSS)
NSS is our introductory strings only orchestra for string students and prepares them for YSO. The goal of this ensemble is to introduce students to ensemble playing and help develop note reading. Students in this orchestra will have been playing for 1-3 years in lessons and have at least 1 year of experience reading music. Students are typically in 8th grade or younger.

NSS meets from 2:00-3:00 PM on Sundays. Tuition is $160 for Fall and Winter Session; $80 for one session.

Youth Symphony Orchestra (YSO)
YSO is our most advanced ensemble offered to brass, woodwind, percussion, and string musicians. YSO students will typically have 4 or more years of experience on their instrument and have had prior ensemble experience. Repertoire for YSO will be selected from advanced high school or introductory collegiate level works.

YSO meets from 2:00-4:00 PM on Sundays. Tuition is $360 for Fall and Winter Session; $180 for one session.

POPS ENSEMBLES (April - June)
MAYSO is offering two levels of orchestra for Summer Session. Selections for the orchestra are drawn from folk, movie, musical theater, and popular culture.

Pops Orchestra is open to string, wind, and percussion student musicians of all playing abilities. We recommend that students in this orchestra have 2 or more years of experience on their instrument and are comfortable reading music. Rehearsals are 2 hours on Sundays.

Pops Orchestra meets from 2:00-4:00 PM on Sundays. There is no membership fee for Pops Orchestra this year.

Pops Orchestra Lite is geared toward younger and beginning string students. It affords them the opportunity to play with the Pops Orchestra on parts that are fit to their note reading and playing ability. They will rehearse for 1 hour with the Pops Orchestra on selected pieces and also receive a 30 minute sectional to help them learn their music. This group is recommended for first time orchestra players or students who have 2 or less years of experience note read and playing their instrument.

Pops Orchestra Lite meets from 2:00-3:30 PM on Sundays. There is no membership fee for Pops Orchestra Lite this year.
