The Daily is looking to hire for a number of positions in the Photography and Multimedia Department. Photographers have significant responsibility in terms of generating and preparing content, in concert with the News, Sports, and Arts and Life sections. If you are accepted as a staff photographer, you will be expected to be an active member and contributor.
Positions include:
Staff Photographer
Staff photographers will be attached to a beat (a coverage area within news, sports, or arts and life). They will be responsible for attending the once-a-week hour long pitch meeting for their beat, and will coordinate with other photographers to take all of the necessary photographs. There will also be a weekly photo review session that should take about half an hour.
Staff photographers will be expected to take 2-3 assignments per week and turn in sets of preselected and tagged images. They will have access to The Daily's photo equipment, but if you have your own equipment, that's a plus.
Staff photographers will be paid a $150 stipend at the end of the volume.
Desk Editor
Desk editors are responsible for editing the photos for print and web distribution. Desk editors spend one night per week in The Daily office, selecting and processing images using Photoshop and Lightroom. Experience with Photoshop and some form of photo management software is a plus, but training will be provided as necessary. In general, desk editors are also staff photographers. Desk editors are paid an hourly wage.
Graphic Designer/Illustrator
Graphic designers and illustrators generate the infographics and illustrations for The Daily. These often include cover artwork for The Weekend Edition and data visualization for investigative reports. Graphic designers and illustrators will be paid a $150 stipend at the end of the volume.
This application will be due on Tuesday, September 30th at 11:59 pm. We will get back to you by Friday, October 3. If you have any questions, please email Sam Girvin and Kristen Stipanov, the Managing Editors of Photography and Multimedia, at
