Hi! Thanks for your interest in volunteering with us!
We are Black and Pink PDX (B+P PDX), a Portland-based group committed to building solidarity alongside incarcerated LGBTQ+ and HIV+ people all across Oregon. Our fight to abolish the prison industrial complex is rooted in the teachings and experiences of currently and formerly incarcerated people.
The pen-pal program we run is the heart of what we do. We support free-world volunteers like you with getting matched to write our inside members (LGBTQ+ and HIV+ people inside OR prisons). Our greatest need right now is with finding matches for our inside members still waiting for a penpal- we have over 300 LGBTQ+ and HIV+ prisoners in Oregon who take part in our penpal program and about 100 of them are still waiting for pen-pals.
We also have regular mail processing nights where free world volunteers like you help us respond to various types of mail sent to our PO box. In addition, we collaborate with our inside members to publish a zine which we send to our inside members. Here is a more detailed run through of our
values and current projects.
