Your answer
MORAL CHARACTER QUESTION: You are a junior attorney at a small private law firm that handles some very contentious real estate cases that often include advocating for indigent tenants. One day while working at your computer you noticed that you received an email from your opposing counsel's client, a slum-lord that is known for taking advantage of and being disrespectful towards low income tenants. The client had mistakenly emailed your office some confidential questions and information that was not required to be disclosed to your office, and were clearly not meant for you to read or see. It was addressed to the client’s lawyer, your opposing counsel, and the client had clearly emailed you the material on accident. By the tone of the subject and the first line you have the feeling that the information included could be disastrous to your opponent’s client because you determine that the opponent’s client was confiding privileged information to their attorney that should never have been sent to you and could very likely affect the outcome of the case if you chose to secretly make use of it. Assume that reading the material is against your jurisdiction's ethics rules but that there is no way to prove that you accessed the material... Do you read it?
Please give a well thought out response under 400 words maximum. If you need more time, best thing to do is answer the question on a word document. Copy and paste from word document to here when you are ready to submit the application.
