Chicago Public Schools voted in May of 2013 to close 47 underutilized schools throughout the district – the largest number of schools closed in one year by any district in the nation at the time. Join us as Jennifer shares the Consortium’s findings on the impact of these school closings, which affected nearly 12,000 students.

A brief panel discussion, followed by a reception, will spotlight the Neighborhood Schools Program (NSP) at the University of Chicago and the alumni and community partners that have participated over the years. The panel will look at what has happened over NSP’s 40-year history, what challenges face schools in the area today, and what the future holds for the program.
