River Patrol volunteer groups and individuals are critical components of our efforts to protect this National Wild and Scenic River and the surrounding Wilson Creek Wilderness. Our volunteers play a vital role in periodic trash pick up and assessing waterway conditions for signs of misuse or vandalism. We depend upon reliable volunteers especially during the peak River Season of May 1-Oct 31st. We are flexible in doing our best to accommodate the needs of groups and individuals year-round, but advanced notice of your availability is required, so that we may make logistical training and scheduling plans. If you or your group is scheduled and confirmed, it is important that you SHOW UP as we will be depending on you for critical pick up needs. River Patrol typically occurs rain or shine, unless we anticipate severe or dangerous weather conditions, in which case you will be notified ASAP.
Participation in a Group Training Session prior to your first River Patrol is required. Our River Patrol volunteer groups meet at the National Forest Service Work Station, 8384 NC-90, Collettsville, NC 28611 / ACWC Group Leaders will provide a brief overview of our stewardship effort, go over Safety Information, Interaction with Visitors Policy and Procedures, and go over the logistics and time line for the day's event.
Taking the survey below will get you started in decision making about how you (and or your group) may want to be involved. We will be happy to discuss this information with you after we receive your submission. Thank you!
