2024 DramaWest State Conference: 'Fusion' - Call for Contributions

2024 Conference Theme:
Our vision for the conference this year is to explore the theme of Fusion: 
  • This theme encapsulates the innovative blending of diverse elements to enrich and transform performing arts education. 
  • In an ever-evolving world, the ability to integrate different styles, cultural perspectives, and technological advancements is crucial for creating dynamic and impactful theatrical experiences. 
  • This event celebrates the art of fusion, where teachers are invited to explore the synergies between tradition and modernity, local and global influences, and the physical and digital realms. 
  • Through this theme, participants will discover new methodologies, foster creative collaboration, and inspire their students with fresh, multifaceted approaches to drama and dance. 
  • Fusion aims to equip educators with the tools and insights needed to navigate and shape the future of Performing Arts education, ensuring it remains a vibrant and inclusive field for generations to come.
Expressions of Interest may come from:
  • We are looking for contributions from teachers, artists, academics, organisations and/or companies to connect with our members and conference attendees.  
  • For the first time we will also be offering a stream of Dance workshops/presentations within our conference.
  • We encourage you to pass this expressions of interest form link onto anyone that you may know would be interested in presenting!
Length of Sessions:
  • Academic Papers/Presentations: 15 minutes
  • Practical Workshops: 90 minutes (note that you could split your workshop into two 45 minute sections)

This State Conference will have 3 subthemes for our contributions to link to; please read the descriptions below and indicate which sub stream your session would best connect with. 

1. Stylistic Fusion

Description: Explore the innovative blend of various dramatic styles and techniques. This subtheme delves into how traditional and contemporary forms can be merged to create dynamic, engaging performances. Performing Arts teachers will learn how to incorporate elements from different genres, such as classical theatre, modern drama, physical theatre, and experimental theatre, to enhance storytelling and performance quality in their classrooms.

 

2. Global Fusion

Description: Embrace the rich diversity of global theatre practices. This subtheme highlights the importance of integrating multicultural perspectives and traditions into Performing Arts education. Participants will discover how to weave together narratives, performance styles, and theatrical techniques from different cultures, fostering a deeper understanding and appreciation of global artistic expressions in their students.


3. Technological Fusion

Description: Harness the power of technology to revolutionize drama teaching and performance. This subtheme focuses on the intersection of drama, dance and innovation, exploring how traditional theatre technologies such as sound, lighting, costumes, and sets can be combined with modern tools like virtual reality, augmented reality, and digital storytelling. Additionally, it delves into the creative use of puppetry and other interactive elements to create immersive and captivating theatrical experiences. Performing Arts teachers will gain insights into incorporating these diverse technologies to enhance creativity, engagement, and learning outcomes in their teaching programs.
