The general objective of the training is to build capacity of individual participants as well as strengthen the institutional capacity by giving theoretical and practical knowledge and skills of Geographic  Information  System  (GIS),  its  application  procedures  and  methods,  to  handle software tools and techniques to support planning and decision-making. More specifically, the course aims to introduce the topic of GIS with practical applications and familiarize participants with handling ArcGIS software tools, management skills and knowledge.


COURSE OUTCOMES:
The participants will acquire knowledge and skills on GIS as well as Global Positioning System (GPS). The participants will be exposed to ArcGIS v.10.2 software tools and techniques for handling spatial information, analysis and presentation. The participants will be also able in preparing professionals maps with certain cartographic principles.

1. Understand the concept of Geo-Informatics and their applications.
2. Understand the various sources of data capturing methods in a GIS.
3. Understand the concepts of GIS database management system.
4. Be able to bring different outputs with professional map.
5. An ability to identify, analyze and solve technical problems in GIS.

ENTRY REQUIREMENTS:
 Basic Computer Knowledge,
 Basic GIS Knowledge and Software Knowledge in ArcGIS (option),
 You should have your own Laptop


EVALUATION:
Students will be evaluated and grades assigned based on their demonstrated knowledge of the subject matter and their ability to apply that knowledge to the solution of assigned problems, class assignments, project work and oral presentation.
Grade A: 80 – 100 (Excellent)
Grade B: 60 – 79 (Very Good)
Grade C: 50 – 59 (Good)
Grade D: 40 – 49 (Satisfactory)
