If you are inquiring about surrendering your pet, please note that we may not be able to immediately accommodate your request. As a public shelter we care for animals that have been surrendered by their owners, found as strays, and are housed for safety or illness, and more. We urge pet owners to exhaust all options and resources provided before surrendering their pet so that we are able to reserve space for animals with the greatest need.
Please note that animals surrendered to the shelter become property of Oakland Animal Services. While we will make every effort to find placement for your pet, we cannot guarantee that it will be adopted. Pets surrendered to the shelter will be considered for adoption, transfer to a rescue group, or humane euthanasia.
