With the end of the semester approaching and deadlines looming, now is the time to enhance your academic writing! This four-part series will guide you through the process of writing a research paper for your class in a timely manner. The first two sessions will focus on getting started, planning your writing, and entering the academic conversation. The final two sessions will focus on developing your argument and editing and revising. For the final two sessions, we invite you to bring a draft of a research paper you are working on.

Intended Audience: Divinity School Students and other graduate and professional school students working on a research paper for class.

Time: 4:00-5:30pm

WEBINAR: This Series will be held as a webinar. Participants will receive the Zoom link to sign into the session and a handout to print out or save prior to the session in the Confirmation and Reminder emails.

Getting Started on Writing Your Paper (Mar. 25) In this session, we will discuss planning your research and writing, as well as choosing a topic that is not too broad or too narrow.

Entering the Academic Conversation (Apr. 1) In this interactive workshop, we will provide you with tools and strategies for connecting your research paper to ongoing scholarship in your field. We will discuss building bridges between your research and what is being said by other scholars in the field.

Developing the Research Paper Argument (Apr. 8) We will cover structuring an argument, utilizing persuasive writing techniques, and rebutting opposing arguments. Activities during the workshop will give you an opportunity to apply the skills and techniques we discuss.

Editing and Revising Your Draft (Apr. 15) In this final workshop, we will discuss editing and revising at the global and local levels. Exercises will help you learn how to edit for clarity and conciseness.
