If you are charging for photoshoots this year, we require you to purchase a Photographer Badge in addition to your normal Shuto Con Badge. Anyone financially profiting from our event and/or attendees must be accounted for via similar regulations as our dealers and artists. Photographers with professional or pro-sumer gear actively taking photos, may be approached by staff and asked if they are doing a paid photoshoot.
This credential is $20 and is in addition to an attendee membership. The purpose of the application process is to verify your service as legitimate, not to judge quality of work. We are asking for a portfolio showing your previous work at conventions, events, or professional photography experience. The portfolio can be your business Facebook page, Tumblr, etc that you can link in this application. These badges will be available for pickup at-con registration when you pick up your regular badge.
What this provides to you:- Photographer Badge which allows you to do paid photoshoots inside areas of the convention. Equipment is permitted in foot traffic areas (hallway areas away from traffic), but should immediately be moved when your shoot is complete or if any handicap or if any attendee with special needs must pass through need to pass through.- Access to Live events room when no Live Events are going on(will have time slots where this is open in the schedule) to set up medium/large photography set ups, including backdrops, allowing more equipment to be used. Medium/large displays will ONLY be allowed in that room, as only handheld/small displays will be allowed in the hallways in designated areas. Electricity will be provided there as a part of your badge's fee, but we do ask that you bring your own extension cords/power strip.- As a bonus perk to add value to your badge, we are going to do Daily Features for Photographers who get the Photographer Badge before the convention similar to what we did with Artists and Dealers on our Facebook page/group. You will be able to display a few of your best samples, offer rates, and provide potential customers your website/portfolio so they can contact you to set up time slots at the con.-* TBD, possible photographer gathering. We will offer this based on feedback and interest.
What this does NOT provide you:- Does not grant “All Access” or Press privilege to our event.- Does not grant you the power to restrict attendees from certain areas of the convention.- You may politely ask attendees to clear an area, but they do not have to comply.
Equipment allowed for indoor paid shoots in foot traffic areas:- Small lighting umbrellas, must be out of way of foot traffic and not trip hazards- Small fold able handheld reflectors- Handheld lights/attached camera lights
All equipment must be able to be torn down quickly and easily and used away from high traffic areas. Badges need to be visible at all times, in a spot where it is easily seen is the best.
Photographers may be approached by staff at the convention and asked if they are doing a paid photoshoot. In the event photographers hosting a paid session do not have a Shuto Con 2018 Photographer Badge, they will be escorted to registration to purchase this add-on. Refusal to do so may result in the loss of attendee badges and/or being escorted off the premises.
Reports of a Photographer being rude to attendees will result in the removal of the Photographer Badge. Complainant will be reviewed with a possibility to discontinue photo shoots for the remainder of the event. Inability to comply will result in removal of attendee badge and the event.
Once your application is submitted and reviewed, you will be sent an email with an approval decision and further instructions as to how to proceed with your registration process along with any other information if needed. Shuto Con reserves the right to deny a Photographer Badge to anyone, at any time.
As always at the con, to make things easier for everyone, please have your badge easily visible.
*Application may change at any point, in which case you will get an email stating what has changed in regards to rules or anything pertaining to the Photography Badge. If you make any changes to your application, please email letting me know so I am aware of the changes
