EmPower Hour: Parenting in the 21st Century with Tyrone Howard
Ongoing Dilemma: Raising African American
Male Leaders in an Atmosphere of Conflict

UCLA Alumni Affairs Diversity Programs is proud to present "Parenting in the 21st Century" EmPower Hour series, a one-hour online program that explores culturally-relevant discussions on the themes of diversity that benefit all people navigating a changing world.

This Black History Month marks the kickoff of a series that celebrates and highlights the challenges of parenting in the 21st century. We are particularly excited to have Tyrone Howard, Ph.D., director of the UCLA Black Male Institute, join us to talk about what it's like to raise African American males in the tempest of today's increasing racial/ethnic tensions where social media, technology impact societal views instantly.

As an educator and scholar, Dr. Howard's work focuses on the disenfranchisement of boys and men of color, particularly African American and Latino males. His research provides a counter narrative to the age-old story that has been told about young men of color. More importantly, it speaks to how improving the condition for racial and ethnic minority communities includes an endeavor of considerable national consequence with a capacity to improve all communities, for all of us.

We welcome all that are interested in this conversation.
