Golden Belt Arts Studio Application
Join a newly reinvigorated Golden Belt Arts! We aim to build a vibrant and diverse artistic community that contributes to the life of the campus, our neighborhood, and Durham—all while growing Golden Belt’s reputation as a cultural destination.
New Studios
Our studios have moved from the Building 3 area of Golden Belt to the newly renovated Warehouse on the north side of campus (near the intersection of Taylor and N. Elizabeth Streets). The 25 new, private studios range from 178 sq. feet to 421 sq. feet.

We are committed to keep our studio rents below market rate— most studios can be rented for approx. $250 per month. Each studio has professional-grade amenities including high-quality dimmable artificial lighting, ventilation, a shared mess sink, artist curated gallery space, and access to a common work area/classroom. There are also skylights that allow natural light into shared spaces and studios 1, 2, and 3. Studio 25 is designed for ceramics, with an in-studio sink and exhaust fan. (Floor plans provided below.)

More Community Opportunities
Art defines Golden Belt. In addition to providing a platform to create among dozens of other artists, there are now more opportunities to display artwork to campus visitors and participate in public art events. The new Golden Belt Arts Studios East Gallery is exclusively dedicated to studio tenants, and the Grand Gallery will host rotating displays of large-format pieces (by studio tenants and others). There are also other display exhibition opportunities around campus.

Please note: Artists who rent their studio from Golden Belt are expected to participate in the monthly Third Friday art open house and regularly work in their studios.
