UNISON & UCU Petition: No Compulsory Redundancies at the University of Kent
This petition of worker’s names will only be handed to University management when we reach 500 names. Open to all workers at Kent.
The fallout from the ‘Organising for Success’ restructure has devastated staff morale, and created intolerable workloads. And yet the University is still planning to make further redundancies this year, targeting technical and professional services staff. Workers are intimidated, and afraid to speak up.
The work environment at Kent has become toxic.
The University exceeded its Year 1 targets for “cost savings” through the Kent Voluntary Severance Scheme, “The Pay Freeze” and voluntary pay cuts. Over 400 staff have already left the University through the KVSS (around 10% of the total workforce). For the staff who remain, thriving at work has become impossible, and burnout is at an all time high.
In order to pay the banks, Kent has failed its staff and students.
We say that enough is enough.
- We demand that the University takes all compulsory redundancies off the table immediately, to protect jobs and workload.
- We demand that the University safeguards the wellbeing of staff, by creating manageable and sustainable workloads.
