Esperanza AVID Application
AVID stands for Advancement Via Individual Determination. It is an elective class meant for students with a GPA of 2.0 or higher, who have motivation and potential for academic success, and a desire to attend college. AVID provides an opportunity for students to receive additional support and guidance. Opportunities for support include: tutoring from college students in various subject areas, study skills, note-taking skills, organization, time-management, and collaborative activities. AVID students will be able to get information on various post-secondary opportunities, assistance in preparing applications to universities, and visit college campuses.
AVID is NOT an at-risk program. It is designed to assist students in attending and graduating from a four-year college and is not for students who fail to complete homework, consistently receive D’s or F’s, or show lack of motivation.
Is AVID right for ME?
- I want to attend a four-year university by completing all entrance requirements.
- I am a hard-worker, have a positive attitude, and am willing to participate collaboratively.
- I have the potential, but need some extra support in becoming a better student.
