2022 SPOR Collaborative Forum Abstract Submission Form
Join us in-person on Monday, October 3 and virtually Tuesday, October 4 for the 2022 NorthWest SPOR Collaborative Forum on Patient-Oriented Research, hosted by the Alberta SPOR SUPPORT Unit. This year's theme is "Embracing the New Normal: Patient-Oriented Research Practices and Impacts." This hybrid (in-person and online) event will include plenary panel sessions, workshop presentations, networking activities, a poster session, highlighted oral abstract presentations, and much more!

At this time, we invite you to submit abstracts for presentation at the 2022 NorthWest SPOR Collaborative Forum!

ABSTRACT SUBMISSION INFORMATION
You are invited to submit abstracts for presentation at the 2022 SPOR Collaborative Forum on Patient-Oriented Research!

Submission Deadline: June 30, 2022, 11:59PM MT
- Please use this official online submission form only.
- You may submit more than one abstract. One official online submission is required for each abstract.
- There is no fee to submit an abstract(s).


ABSTRACT CATEGORIES
Abstracts will be selected for one of the following presentation categories:

1. GENERAL CATEGORY: Digital poster + in-person poster session (where possible)
2. HIGHLIGHTED CATEGORY: Digital poster + digital oral abstract presentation + in-person poster session (where possible)

**A limited number of abstracts will be selected for the Highlighted Category.


IF YOUR ABSTRACT IS SELECTED FOR THE GENERAL CATEGORY...
The presenting author(s) will be expected to:
1. Register for the 2022 SPOR Collaborative Forum.
2. Complete your abstract information page in the event app/site and upload your digital poster.
3. Participate in real-time discussions with attendees about your poster during the poster session from 12:00-1:00pm MST on Monday, October 3 (in-person only; those able to go to Calgary/Edmonton will be asked to attend).
 

IF YOUR ABSTRACT IS SELECTED FOR THE HIGHLIGHTED CATEGORY...
The presenting author(s) will be expected to:
1. Register for the 2022 SPOR Collaborative Forum.
2. Complete your abstract information page in the event app/site and upload your digital poster.
3. Participate in real-time discussions with attendees about your poster during the poster session from 12:00-1:00pm MST on Monday, October 3 (in-person only; those able to go to Calgary/Edmonton will be asked to attend).
4. Create a digital 5-7 minute pre-recorded oral abstract presentation for the Highlighted Oral Abstracts online section.


More details and instructions will be provided if your abstract is selected for presentation.

PREPARING AN ABSTRACT FOR SUBMISSION
Please read the following information carefully before accessing the abstract submission form on the next page.

RESEARCH CRITERIA
Please keep in mind the 2022 SPOR Collaborative Forum theme, "Embracing the New Normal: Patient-Oriented Research Practices and Impacts." We will be accepting research abstracts that adhere to the following criteria:
● Contributes to the continuum of patient-oriented research;
● Is informed by and address patient-identified health priorities;
● Aims to improve patient health outcomes;
● Considers, integrates, and addresses the principles of equity, diversity and inclusion;
● Describes community partner research outputs, if any;
● Integrates meaningful patient (and provider) engagement.


ABSTRACT CONTENT
- Abstracts must not exceed 500 words (excluding the abstract title and author names).
- Text should be single-spaced with no spaces between paragraphs.
- No tables, charts or graphs will be accepted.
- Please use standard abbreviations. Place special or unusual abbreviations in parentheses after the full word when it appears for the first time.
- Edits to submitted abstracts may be made up to the submission deadline (refer to the submission confirmation email you receive). Errors, misspellings, and incorrect abbreviations will not be corrected for you prior to review.


Your abstract must contain:

Title -
Abstract title should be in sentence case with only the first letter of the first word capitalized. Abstract title should clearly indicate the content of the presentation and, if appropriate, the method used.

Authors -
Authors should be listed in the order in which they are to appear in the abstract list; last name followed by the initials of the given names of each author as well as their organizational affiliations. The presenting author(s) should be identified and an email address provided for all correspondence. Please also identify if one of the presenters is a patient representative.


Background -
For analytical or clinical studies: Clearly state the problem, study objective(s), research question and/or hypothesis. For conceptual, educational, or policy papers: Clearly describe the purpose of the work or the issue to be discussed.

General Methods -
For analytical or clinical studies: Please include a brief description of the research design, study population, setting, procedures for data collection, and methods of analysis (including statistical techniques) used. For conceptual, educational, or policy presentations: Please include approaches used, frameworks applied, or development of rationale discussed.

Description of Equity, Diversity and Inclusion (EDI) & Sex- and Gender-Based Analysis+ (SGBA+) Integration/Considerations -
(a) Please describe how your study appropriately integrates EDI with respect to your research team (e.g. how does the composition of your research team reflect EDI, and how might this shape your research and impact the results of your study?)
(b) Please describe how your study appropriately integrates EDI with respect to your research procedures and protocols (e.g. how is your data collection form and research environment designed to foster EDI, and how might this impact the results of your study and the quality of your research?)
(c) Please describe how your study appropriately integrates SGBA+. If SGBA+ is not included in your study, please explain why, and please describe what consideration you made relating to SGBA+ when determining your study design.

Results -
State important study findings.

Conclusions -
Provide a concise statement indicating the relevance of the findings.

Keywords -
Please provide 3 keywords.

SELECTION PROCESS
Abstracts will undergo a peer-review process utilizing an online system. The Abstract Review Committee will assess each abstract based on its relevance to patient-oriented research, alignment with criteria, responsiveness to EDI, appropriate integration/consideration of SGBA+, and general scientific merit. Authors of abstracts selected for presentation will be contacted via email by August 5, 2022.

If an abstract is accepted for presentation, the presenting author(s) agree(s) to register for the 2022 SPOR Collaborative Forum upon notification of acceptance. (PLEASE NOTE: Registration for the Oct 4th virtual day is free, but there will be a registration fee for abstract presenters who wish to participate in the Oct 3rd in-person day.)

We will not cover any out-of-pocket expenses for presenting.



CONTESTS & AWARDS

General Category: Favourite Poster -
One (1) digital poster from the General Category will be selected as "Favourite Digital Poster". (Abstracts from the Highlighted Category are not eligible for this contest.) The winning poster will be determined by highest number of votes from event attendees. The winning poster will receive a digital certificate and one (1) $50 gift card!

Highlighted Category: Favourite Oral Abstract -
One (1) oral presentation from the Highlighted Category will be selected as "Favourite Oral Abstract". (Abstracts in the General Category are not eligible for this award.) The winning oral abstract will be determined by highest number of votes from session attendees. The winning oral abstract will receive a digital certificate and one (1) $50 gift card!

Equity, Diversity and Inclusion Award -
One (1) abstract will be selected for the Equity, Diversity and inclusion Award. All abstracts selected for presentation will be considered for this award. The winning abstract will be determined by a panel of expert judges, based on which study best reflects responsiveness to equity, diversity and inclusion. The winning abstract will receive a certificate and one (1) $200 gift card!

Sex- and Gender-Based Analysis+ Award -
One (1) abstract will be selected for the Sex- and Gender-Based Analysis+ Award. All abstracts selected for presentation will be considered for this award. The winning abstract will be determined by a panel of expert judges, based on which study best reflects appropriate integration/considerations and scientific merit relating to sex- and gender-based analysis+ in the study design. The winning abstract will receive a certificate and one (1) $200 gift card!


**Winners will be announced online after the event has concluded. More details, instructions, and contest/award rules will be provided if your abstract is selected for presentation.
